Random Tater Pic of the Day #107
This one comes from a brunch The Bride and her family attended, including the nephew. The Healthy Garden Café, in Voorhees, also with a location in Moorestown, is a terrific small town restaurant with a mind toward health and gourmet.
The pic is the nephew lunch, the kids platter, Chicken Fingers and French Fries, featuring battered regular cut French fries. Mmmm… fries…

French Fry Diary 499: Cape Cod Waffle Cut
Looks like someone else is finally jumping on the bandwagon started by Herr's amazing Lattice Cut potato chips. I was delighted when I found these at Wegmans the other day. Here comes Cape Cod, a New England gourmet potato chip company, with their version - Waffle Cut potato chips.
They actually go Herr's at least one better. Not only are Cape Cod's chips kettle cooked, but they are also thicker, always a plus for dipping. They come in Sea Salt and Seasoned Pepper. Cape Cod Waffle Cut Potato Chips - if you can find them, these are probably the best dipping chips I've found.

Paula Deen - Put a Fork in Her
I've featured Paula Deen a handful of times here at French Fry Diary. Her fearlessness in making crazy fried foods is legendary, making her perfect fodder for a blog about less than healthy food.
However, after the emergence of her racial remarks earlier this week, I don't think I'll be doing that any more. I'm not the only one who feels that way. After blowing off "The Today Show" this morning, this afternoon the Food Network announced they would be dropping her as well.
I would have posted her online apology, but much like Paula did to Matt Lauer, and Food Network did to her, she pulled that sad excuse for an apology from YouTube. Perhaps a full disappearance might be good advice for Ms. Deen for a while. I think we're all sick of her at this point. She's done.

French Fry Diary 498: Strategic Dripping and the Juicy Lucy Burger
I was reading about making homemade Juicy Lucy burgers this morning and it occurred to me that I had never talked about 'strategic dripping' on the blog before. But first things first, I know there are folks out there who are more interested in what a Juicy Lucy is before I get to strategic dripping.
The Juicy Lucy burger (also known as the Jucy Lucy), like the burger itself, and even the favorite fried food, has an iffy past. Many folks claim to have created it, but the name comes from Minneapolis where two different bars lay claim. It's basically an inside-out cheeseburger. The cheese is on the inside of the burger instead of on top of it. You take a bite of the burger and get a mouthful of hot cheese.
Right there, after that wonderful hot cheesy mouthful, that's where strategic dripping comes in. The idea is to drip the cheese (and if it's made right, trust me, the cheese will melt and drip out of the burger) right over your fries. Instant cheese fries.
This technique can also be used in almost any fry dipping situation. Cheese, barbecue sauce, ketchup if you prefer (I don't, but your mileage may vary), pretty much everything except ice cream or milkshake - cold doesn't work well. But the idea is to spread the joy, shall we say. There you go, strategic dipping.

Here's one of fellow writer Patti O'Brien's meals while she was in Valencia, Spain. She got the McPullo, but she didn't order those fries.

The Wolverine Burger at Red Robin
In anticipation of the upcoming The Wolverine movie coming out July 26th, Red Robin Gourmet Burgers have introduced a couple special food items in honor of everyone's favorite Canadian mutant superhero.
There's the Berserker Burger, called 'a flavorful combination of zesty aioli, Sriracha onion straws and spicy pickles topped with Cheddar on a brioche bun,' and the best part, 'served with Bottomless Steak Fries.'
And they are also offering the Red Tavern Double. It's made in new Kuzuri style, Red Robin describes it like this: 'Feed yur inner Wolverine. Samurai slaw, ginger garlic wonton strips and cilantro.' You can mix it up with the ingredients if you want.
They also have a deal where you can get a ticket to The Wolverine with the purchase of special limited edition gift cards - only at participating restaurants.
What ever you do, when it comes to Red Robin, don't forget the Bottomless Steak Fries!
Special thanks to GAR! Podcast partner, Ray Cornwall, for hipping me to this deal!

Random Tater Pic of the Day #105
My friend Marni took this pic of the new Red Lobster onion rings at the Deptford NJ restaurant. She said they no longer had the crisp straw ones. These were a bit thicker, full onions and not chopped up. And of course, they were good in the peach bourbon sauce.

The Hands Free Whopper
I guess this is another one for the genius multi-tasker, or the insanely lazy.
Here's a way to eat your Burger King Whopper and have both hands free.
On the plus side, you can eat your fries with both hands now…
